Spyware

August 21, 2007

Spyware is software that installs itself on your pc without your knowledge. Spyware may take the form of adware (showing pop-up ads on your PC) or it may be more sinister, tracking personal information including credit card details.

Users may accidentally infect their PCs with spyware after downloading it accidentally with programs they do want such freeware or peer to peer programmes.

As well as tracking your data, spyware can slow up your PC as it uses up bandwidth – particularly if it is sending information from your PC on to someone else.
