Latency

Latency is the time that it takes a packet (a small amount of data) to travel between communicating devices (eg an online game an your computer).

With a high latency network, data takes longer to be transmitted – this can effect the performance of applications such as games which need a fast response to operate effectively. For a fast, effective network you need low latency, and high bandwidth.
