Broadband

A broadband connection transfers different types of data at high speed along one medium (a wire or cable). This means that you can have broadband and phone on the one line, with each service being available even when the other is in use.

The slowest broadband is nearly 10 times as fast as dial-up. Broadband download speeds start at 512kb while dial up speeds are usually around 57.6kb .

Broadband connections are often referred to as “always on” – as you usually pay a fixed monthly fee, rather than for the amount of time spent online.

You can find out more about broadband, and search for broadband in your area, on my broadband comparison website UK Broadband Finder.
